Prezi is brilliant for the right story and a gimmick for the wrong one.
Prezi design that uses the movement to mean something, not to make people seasick.
Prezi does something no slide deck can: it lets you show how ideas relate in space, zooming out to the big picture and in to the detail, so the structure of your argument becomes something the audience can see. For the right story, a journey, a system, a set of connected ideas, it’s genuinely powerful and far more memorable than a linear deck.
It’s also the easiest tool to overdo. Movement for its own sake is disorienting, and a Prezi that spins for the sake of spinning works against you. So I’m honest about when it’s the right call, and when it is, I design the motion to carry meaning, every zoom and path there to make a connection clearer. I’m a designer, so the movement always serves the message.

Motion that means something
The difference between a great Prezi and a queasy one is restraint. I use the canvas to show real relationships, the way one idea sits inside another, how a process flows, where the detail lives, so the movement teaches rather than just impresses. When the zoom reveals something, it earns its place. When it wouldn’t, I keep things still.
For the stories that genuinely suit it
Prezi isn’t right for every presentation, and I’ll tell you if yours would be better as a clean linear deck. But when your content has a shape, a journey, a structure, a set of connected parts, Prezi can make that shape visible in a way nothing else can, and that’s when it’s worth doing.
